About the Conference

The 1st WASLI Asia Conference 2025 marks a groundbreaking moment in the advancement of sign language interpreting in the Asian region. Organized by JUPEBIM in collaboration with WASLI Asia Regional Representatives, this landmark event will be held in vibrant Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 31 to August 3, 2025.
The conference addresses the unique priorities and challenges within Asia, including enhancing interpreters’ training, promoting impactful research, and fostering regional partnerships. Aligned with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair and host in 2025, the event underscores the nation’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
With a growing number of organizations employing deaf staff, the need for professional interpreters as a vital component of human resource capacity building and nation-building is clear. By promoting sign language interpreting as a recognized career path, this inaugural regional conference supports both WASLI’s mission to elevate the profession globally and Malaysia’s vision of fostering an inclusive society. Malaysia is proud to host this transformative event and looks forward to welcoming key stakeholders aligned with this meaningful mission to join us in Kuala Lumpur.
